The Hillfields was an indie pop band based in London, UK, active between 2007 and 2011. Their sound was often connected to the bands of the Flying Nun label from New Zealand in the 1980s, giving it a renewed sound, also paying homage to the Sarah Records bands in the UK. They were part of the catalogue of two cult UK and US independent record labels.

Formed in 2007 when Rob Boyd (singer songwriter and guitarist) and Grant Wilkinson (bass player and film-maker) were joined by Carlos Russell (drummer and current head of the independent AR label Argie Pop Records)[1]. They recorded an EP called "A Visit" which was released via independent US label Cloudberry Records[2] in 2008. In 2009 they released their first LP called It'll Never be the Same Again[3][4] via the independent UK label underused records. In 2010 they released an EP called Come Outside, again through underused records. Both releases were recorded, mixed and produced by Simon Trought in London.

On the 29th February 2008 they played live at the Buffalo Bar in London, a Lost Music - Cloudberry Records festival, together with The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Manhattan Love Suicides and Strawberry Story.

Their song "Spoon" was ranked 9th in 2008's Festive Fifty by Dandelion Radio. [5]

They played at the Indietracks festival in July 2010, held at the Midland Railway – Butterley site in Butterley, Derbyshire, their biggest live performance in their career, alongside bands such as The Primitives, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, Allo Darlin' and La La Love You among many others.[6] [7][8][9][10] In December 2010 The Hillfields’ track "Spirit of the Season" was included in a Christmas compilation release by the independent UK label Where It’s At Is Where You Are, called “Christmastime, Approximately”.[11][12]

During January 2011 the band collaborated with Darren Hayman's January Songs project, producing the track called "Bad, bad, bad, bad girl", later released in CD format by the Belka label in the UK. [13][14] On 28th October 2011 Gideon Coe played the track Down on You as part of Steve Lamacq saturday show on BBC Radio 2. [15]
