Nathaniel "Nate" Erskine-Smith (born June 15, 1984) is a Canadian lawyer and civil liberties advocate, best known for his support for amending bill C-51 to ensure the safety and security of Canadians while also protecting their Charter rights. [1] He has been a member of respected law-related organizations such as the Queen's Law Business Clinic. [2] He is currently running for Member of Parliament for Beaches—East York in the 2015 Canadian federal election.[3] [4]

Early Life, Family and Education[edit]

Erskine-Smith grew up in neighbourhood of Beaches in Toronto, [3] attended Bowmore Public School and graduated from Malvern Collegiate Institute [4]. He has won many public speaking and law competitions [3][5]. He has a BA in Political Science and a J.D. from Queens University, and a Master of Laws from Oxford University. He lives in Beaches with his wife Amy, a professor of Food and Nutrition at George Brown College. [6]

Political Career[edit]

In the 2015 federal election he is running as the Liberal Party candidate in the riding of Beaches—East York. In April 2014, Erskine-Smith entered the race for the Liberal Party nomination, [7] and won the nomination in December 2014 after running on a platform of environmental protection, democratic reform for fairer elections, affordable education, and evidence-based scientific decision-making in government.
