User:Adambrower

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Techinically, I feel I ought to use this space to define "Adambrower." All the expected adjectives apply: bipedal, moderately hirsute, average in an average number of ways. But the focused self-consciousness required to create a definition of myself is already introducing a degree of observer error: for instance, I just noticed that I am observing standard English rules of capitalization, whereas when I am typing in conversation (as on IRC) I almost always eschew the caps key.

What is an Adambrower? It's likely that any Adambrower is related in some way to the eponymoous Adam Bro(u)wer Berchoven, who settled in Brooklyn in the 17th century after what seem to have been some shady dealings in what is now Brazil. There was an Adam Brower who wed Annetje Jans Bogardus, the last remaining greensward of whose farm on the island of Manhattan is now enclosed in Duane Park not far from the former site of the World Trade Center.

I now realize that more research is required, so I will pause indefinitely.

the indefinite pause has ended. i see that i've made a few changes to wikipedia pages here and there. i'm amazed at the dedication of those who help maintain this experiment. i'll continue fixing what appears in need of fixing when i see it, in the hope that the experiment succeeds.

someone asked me today how this thing could ever be considered "reliable" or "authoritative." that question really goes to the heart of the experiment. if one believes that the essence of humanity is benign, one must believe that wikipedia will eventually contain reliable articles. those who believe that humanity is at root venal, avaricious, and not worth a bucket of warm spit will assume that wikipedia must eventually contain only self-reviews, advertising, and revenge pieces.

my vote is with the good guise.
