Joseph Denovan Adam (19 September 1841 - 22 April 1896) was a Scottish painter.[1]

Life[edit]

His father was the painter Joseph Adam. His mother was Ann Denovan.

Joseph Denovan Adam was born on 19 September 1841.

He married twice. The first marriage was to Mary Waters Lawrie (born c. 1850 - 1873) on 1 June 1870 in Glasgow. The couple had two daughters Janet Lawrie Adam (born 1871) and Mary Annie Denovan Adam (12 August 1873 - 30 March 1939). Mary Waters Adam died in Crieff in 1873 probably from childbirth.

The second marriage was to Annie Lochhead (3 April 1855 - 1942). They married on 14 September 1876. They had a son Joseph Denovan Adam [Jnr.] born on 12 December 1880; and another son John Lochhead Adam was born in 1884.

He died on 22 April 1896 at Oak Vale, 4 University Avenue, Glasgow.[2][3][4] [5]

His estate was worth £5071, 14 shillings and 8 pence.[6]
