James Barr

James Barr (23 April 1816 - 22 December 1892) was a Scottish painter.[1]

Life[edit]

His father was James Barr Snr. (10 July 1777 - 6 February 1849) from Bonhill.

His mother was Agnes McFarlane (1794 - 12 November 1869) from Kilmaronock, West Dunbartonshire.

James Snr. and Agnes married in Bonhill on 12 December 1813.

James Barr was born on 23 April 1816 in Bonhill.

He married Janet Tait Barr (27 February 1821 - 31 January 1893), known as Jessie, on 14 June 1858 in Glasgow.

Art[edit]

In 1861 he exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy his works: Mill Dam - A Sketch and Old Tower, Firth Of Clyde.[2]

In 1869 he exhibited one work at the RSA: Fairlie Glen.[3]

In 1870 he exhibited his work at the RSA: Crookston.[4]

In 1872 he exhibited his work at the RSA: On The Ayrshire Coast.[5]

In 1873 he exhibited his work at the RSA: Hillside - Near Dunoon.[6]

In 1879 he exhibited his work at the RSA: Old Mill, St. Bryde's.[7]

In 1889 he exhibited his work at the RSA: Evening Near Fairlie.[8]

Death[edit]

He died on 22 December 1892 at his home at 21 Rose Street, Glasgow.[9]
