Harry Berstecher (1893 - 1983) was a Scottish painter.[1]

Life[edit]

His father was Ernest Gottlieb Berstecher (2 March 1865 - 1921), a furrier from Germany. He was naturalised as a British citizen on 7 August 1896.

His mother was Anna Maria Johanna Elizabeth Haag (15 August 1868 - 1937) from Weinheim, Rhein-Neckar-Kreis, Baden-Württemberg in Germany. Ernest and Anna Maria married on 10 August 1892 in Frankfurt, Germany.

Harry was born as Heinrich Jacob Richard Berstecher on 15 June 1893 at 58 South Woodside Road in Glasgow.

He married Ethel Gertrude Ottman ( - 1984) in 1941 in Hillhead, Glasgow.

Art[edit]

In 1917 he exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy his works: Still Life and Xantho.[2]

Death[edit]

He died in 1983 in the East Neuk of Fife.
