Andrew Black (1850 - 1916) was a Scottish painter.[1]
Life[edit]
His father was Andrew Black [Snr.] (born c.1808).
His mother was Isabella Jackson (born c. 1810). They married on 14 December 1832 in the Gorbals, Glasgow.

THE LATE MR. ANDREW BLACK, R.S.W. The profession of art in Scotland, and in the west particularly, has lost a cultured craftsman by the death of Mr Andrew Black. His work was familiar to visitors to exhibitions chiefly through his excellent seascapes, which were always cleverly painted, and charm of colour and a fine sense of the atmosphere of the open sea in its varied moods. Born in Glasgow in 1850, Mr Black began the study of painting in his native city, but later proceeded to Paris, where he remained for some time. He returned to Scotland, and became a regular contributor to the exhibitions of the Royal Scottish Academy and the Glasgow Fine Art Institute, and in 1884 he became a member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour, at whose shows he displayed excellent work. He also was represented at other leading exhibitions in this country and abroad. He wee one of the oldest members of the Glasgow Art Club, having joined in 1870 three years after its formation. Mr Black was unmarried.
