Emma Rose Black (née Williams;c. 1870 - 15 December 1945) was a Scottish painter.[1]
Life[edit]
Her father was Owen Hugh Williams (18 December 1835 - 11 September 1913) in Liverpool.
Her mother was Annie Birch (c. 1842 - 2 January 1918), born in Sefton, Lancashire.
She was born Emma Williams in Wavertree, Liverpool c. 1870.
Emma married William Rose Black (30 April 1868 - 8 October 1960) from Elgin; on 12 September 1900 in St. Andrews Church in Liverpool, England. He was a solicitor, who became a Lieutenant Colonel in the First World War in the Seaforth Highlanders, and later was a Procurator Fiscal for Moray.[2] Emma Williams was Rose Black's second wife, after this first wife Annie Brown Whittet (16 January 1857 - 19 January 1899) died in Steuben, New York.

THE LATE MRS ROSE BLACK. — The death occurred yesterday of Mrs Rose Black, wife of Lieut.-Colonel Rose Black, of Leuchars, near Elgin. Mrs Black was widely known as a watercolour artist, and sales of her paintings in various centres, including London, raised considerable sums of money for charitable purposes. She was also an author, and her books "Impressions of Moray" and "Glimpses of Moray" with coloured reproductions of her paintings, found a ready sale.
Works[edit]
A substantial amount of her work was lost, after her death, when her former Leuchars House home caught fire on 3 May 1948.[4]
