Frank Brichta (16 March 1865 - 4 August 1898) was a Scottish painter.[1]

Life[edit]

His father was Francis Brichta (c.1829 - 24 December 1908), originally from Hamburg in Germany, he settled in Edinburgh. He was a shipbroker for the Ottoman Vice Counsel.[2]

His mother was Frances Adelaide Heald (1840 - 16 January 1929), originally from Newcastle Upon Tyne in England, then moving to Edinburgh. Frances and Frances married on 8 December 1863 in Newcastle.

Their eldest child Francis Frederick Brichta, known as Frank, was born on 16 March 1865 in North Shields. The Newcastle Journal of Friday 17 March 1865 stating:[3]

At North Shields, at Linskill Terrace, on the 16th inst., the wife of Francis Brichta, of a son.

Another son William was born on 8 May 1866 but died shortly afterwards, his death on the English register for December 1866.[4] Then came Amelia (born c. October 1867) and Christina (born c. 1871).

The family moved to Scotland and the children were raised there, after 1871, when Frank was just a child. His younger sister Evalina was born in Leith.

He died on 4 August 1898 in St. Brelade, Jersey.

He was buried there on 6 August 1898.
