John Michael Brown (30 January 1858 - 7 January 1947) was a Scottish painter.[1]

Life[edit]

His father was Thomas Brown (c. 1827 - 23 June 1892), a picture engraver.[2]

His mother was Catherine Turner Carr (born c. 1831). Thomas and Catherine married on 29 September 1854 in St. Cuthbert's parish, Edinburgh.

John Michael Brown was born on 30 January 1858 in Edinburgh. His birth certificate incorrectly lists his middle name as Mitchell.

His wife was Jane Paterson Rae from Ayr (c. 1863 - 1941), a daughter of Archibald Rae.[6]

They married in 1886 in Ayr.

They had a son Archibald Michael Carr Brown in 1887.
