Robert Frier (14 May 1818 - 2 September 1893) was a Scottish painter.

Life[edit]

His father was William Frier (c. 1776 - 12 May 1852), a baker from Colstoun, south of Haddington.

His mother was Jean Jamieson (14 June 1772 - 24 March 1855) from Garvald, East Lothian. William and Jean married on 19 June 1801 in Edinburgh.

Robert Frier was born on 14 May 1818 in Edinburgh. Robert was originally a draper, but with a talent for art his occupation became artist.

He married Margaret Palmer (c. 1824 - 29 April 1888) from Colvend, Dumfriesshire. Robert and Margaret married on 7 November 1845 in Edinburgh.

Most of their children also became artists, but Robert (7 May 1857 - 17 March 1869), Alice (1 March 1854 - 4 April 1862) and Arthur (2 August 1864 - 21 December 1864) died when young.
