Adam Christie (18 September 1868 - 7 May 1950) was a Scottish painter.

Life[edit]

His father was Laurence Christie (26 January 1842 - 16 November 1918) in Cunningsburgh, Dunrossness.

His mother was Isabella Bain (2 February 1838 - 20 June 1876) from Cunningsburgh. Laurence and Isabella married on 28 November 1867 in Bressay. After Isabella died, Laurence married again, to Sarah Mouat (27 July 1842 - 6 October 1921) on 25 December 1879 in Channerwick.

Adam Christie was born on 18 September 1868 in Cunningsburgh, Dunrossness.

Death[edit]

Christie suffered from severe depression and was sent to Sunnyside Hospital in Hillside, Montrose.

He spent almost 50 years in the hospital.

He died on 7 May 1950 in Sunnyside Hospital, Montrose.[1]

He was buried on 11 May 1950 at Sleepyhillock Cemetery, Montrose.

Christie has been dubbed 'The Gentle Shetlander'.[2] [3] [4] [5] [6]
