Jane Cowan Wyper (25 August 1855 - 12 July 1898) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

Life[edit]

Her father was James Cowan Wyper (2 September 1827 - 18 October 1882), a stationer. He was a partner in the firm of Francis Orr and Sons, a company that produced various diaries, sheet music, postcards, schoolbooks etc.[3] He died running for a tram.

Her mother was Agnes Wilson (c. 1829 - 19 September 1903). James and Agnes married on 14 November 1850 in Glasgow. The couple had ten children.

Jane Cowan Wyper was born on 25 August 1855 in Glasgow. Her sisters Elizabeth and Mary also became art students.

She took a trip to Sark in the Channel Islands. She stayed at the Dixcart Hotel on the island.

She died on 12 July 1898 falling off a cliff in Sark while sketching Les Autelets.[4][5][6]
