George Wilkie Gahan (October 1871 - 22 December 1956) was a Scottish artist.[1]

Life[edit]

His father was Thomas Gahan (born 1841), a joiner from Montrose, Angus.

His mother was Ann Harris (7 February 1840 - 6 December 1904) from Fordoun, Kincardineshire.[2] Thomas and Ann married on 31 March 1862 in Montrose.

George Wilkie Gahan was born around October - December 1871 in Newcastle on Tyne, while his father was working there. George was the only one of their 6 children not born in Angus.

The family moved back to Scotland when Gahan was still an infant - his younger brother by 2 years was born in Dundee - and George was brought up in Dundee.

George married Margaret Auchte Millar (died 29 December 1971) in 1904 in Lochee, Angus.

He died on 22 December 1956 in Dundee.

He is buried in Balgay cemetery in Dundee.[4]
