John Alexander Gilfillan (25 December 1794 - 11 February 1864) is a Scottish painter.
Life[edit]
His father was John Gilfillan [Snr] (c. 1759 - 21 November 1808), a lieutenant from Falkirk.
His mother was Elizabeth Bridges (c. 1775 - 1826), from Kirkbean in Dumfriesshire. John [Snr] and Elizabeth married on 7 September 1791 in London.
John Alexander Gilfillan was born on 25 December 1794 in Elizabeth Castle in Jersey, while his father served in the Channel Islands.
John Alexander married twice. His first marriage was to Sarah Murray (15 July 1811 - 13 August 1837) from Kirkbean. His second marriage was Mary Bridges (c.1807 - 18 April 1847).
