John Hamilton Glass (28 December 1864 - 10 April 1940) was a Scottish painter.

Life[edit]

His father was James Glass. (born c. 1819) in Clackmannan, a weaver's beamer. His mother was Agnes Hamilton (c. 1823 - 27 February 1874).

John Hamilton Glass was bon in Hamilton on 28 December 1864. He stayed at 18 Low Patrick Street in Hamilton. At the age of 16 he was a painter's clerk.[1]

He married Pheobe Morris Williams (c. 1867 - 1919) on 25 March 1877 in Motherwell.[2]

They had a daughter Constance Ann Hamilton Glass (1891 - 1893), a daughter Constance George Glass (1897 - 1979) and a son Henry H. Glass (born c. 1900).[3]

In 1890-91 he was staying at 13 St. James Square in Edinburgh.[4]

In 1901-02 he was staying at 77 Cumberland Street in Edinburgh.[5]

After Phoebe died, Glass married again in 1920. His new wife was Jane Marshall (born. c. 1877).

Death[edit]

He died of chronic myocarditis and cardiac failure on 10 April 1940 in Westfield Park, Dalkeith.
