History[edit]

They had already asked Forsyth's of Glasgow to make their strips in 1873.[2]

A general meeting was held in the Wheat Sheaf Hotel on Wednesday 5 November 1873. The advert in the Greenock Telegraph and Clyde Shipping Gazette was signed by the Honorary Secretary, J.M.[3]

Decline of the rugby union club[edit]

There are no reports of any matches from 1878-79 season onwards. The loss of the club captain may not have helped. The club's playing field was on farmland at Berryyards in Greenock; which was a farmstead built on an ancient fruit garden.[29] However the site was taken over by the Berryyards Sugar Refinery.[30]

Other sports[edit]

Greenock also had a cricket club.[31]
