Folsom’s Rivals Plotted To Leak Negative Information About Him To Press[edit]

According to the records in Montgomery Co. Circuit Court, shortly after Jim Folsom was sworn in as Governor on April 22, 1993, Paul Hubbert (later aided and abetted by Paul Haughton of the Republican State Executive Committee, and by others) entered into a conspiracy the calculated object of which was to smear Gov. Jim Folsom’s reputation for honesty and thus cause his defeat in the June 1994 Democratic Primary for Governor.” <ref>Montgomery County Circuit Court, In Re: Grand Jury Investigation of Cayman Islands Trip By James E. Two People ‘Duped’ Into Filing False Ethics Complaints Against Folsom.[edit]

“Manuel Atkins and Tom Mills were duped into joining this conspiracy in order to circumvent Code of Alabama, Title 36-25-4(14), which prohibits the Ethics Commission from proceeding with any investigation of an anonymous complaint. Atkins/Mills were enlisted to get around this legal requirement because they were willing to sign their names to numerous complaints demanding investigations into a variety of contrived allegations concerning Gov. Folsom’s life and finances. Hubbert/Haughton and others fed false information and half-truths to Atkins /Mills, who had no personal knowledge or proof of any of these allegations. Atkins/Mills lied to and mislead the Ethics Commission by falsely claiming that unimpeachable sources were providing them with reliable and verifiable information.” <ref>[Montgomery County Circuit Court, In Re: Grand Jury Investigation of Cayman Islands Trip By James E. Reporter Worked With Folsom’s Rivals To Write Negative Articles, Repeat Allegations To Create Image That Folsom Was Dishonest[edit]

“John Milazzo, a.k.a. John Alcorn, a reporter with The Montgomery Advertiser, joined the conspiracy as part of a this calculated effort to cause these stories, when run, rerun, repeated and repeated, hashed and rehashed, to both create and perpetuate the false notion in the minds of voters that Gov. Folsom was dishonest, that he was receiving kickbacks and payoffs, and that he was using his office for personal gain.” <ref>[Montgomery County Circuit Court, In Re: Grand Jury Investigation of Cayman Islands Trip By James E.
