From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A technologist is an individual who possesses specialized knowledge and expertise in the application and utilization of technology. They are professionals who have a profound comprehension of the intricacies of technology and the synergistic potential it holds when integrated with other technological domains.[1] A technologist is a professional profile who not only grasps the innermost workings of a particular technology but also possesses the acumen to seamlessly apply it in tandem with other complementary technologies.[2] In the realm of health care, for instance, a technologist may be referred to as a "lab tech".[3] The lab technologist assumes the role of a project manager, overseeing and guiding the operations within the laboratory.[3]

The role of a technologist[edit]

A technologist's function may be denoted by various job titles across different organizations.[4] For example, a Director of Information Technology is often a technologist by virtue of their expertise.[4] The same holds true for a Technology Project Manager.[4] In smaller organizations, a technologist may be entrusted with a multitude of responsibilities. In certain instances, a project may commence under the leadership of a staff member or technician, only to be subsequently handed over to a technologist as the project progresses and gains complexity.[4] The technologist is a consummate specialist in harnessing the potential of technologies to achieve the objectives set forth by the project owner.[4] In Canada, engineers who have received their training from other countries may find themselves employed as engineering technologists.
