Jacomo Hakim (born August 15, 1989) is a Persian Jewish entrepreneur and visionary. In 2012, Jacomo launched BookATailor, an innovative pioneer in custom bespoke men’s and women’s wear.

Early Life & Education

Jacomo, the son of Fred and Dalia Hakim, was born and raised in Great Neck, New York and is the middle child of three. His father is the CEO of DalCom Telecommunications and his mother is a stay-at-home wife. While in Great Neck, Jacomo entered North Shore Hebrew Academy.

At the age of six, Fred Hakim’s job relocated his family to Israel for two years. While in Israel, Jacomo was enrolled in Ramat-Aviv. Jacomo and his family then moved to Italy, where he attended the American School of Milan (ASM). Jacomo father’s health caused the family to relocated back to Great Neck where Jacomo entered Great Neck North High School and later enrolled in to Baruch College. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Corporate Communications. Jacomo now speaks fluent Hebrew, Persian, Italian and English.

Career

DJ

Prior to launching GEMMA Suits in 2010, Hakim’s interest in DJing quickly budded into a full-time hobby. Jacomo purchased a DJ set for his 16th birthday and at 17 he found himself transitioning from the dance floor to the DJ booth. During his college tenure, Jacomo was a DJ for New York’s premiere nightclubs (i.e. 1OAK, Marquee, Lavo and Tenjune). Hakim’s parents’ desire for him to actively pursue a career in business compelled him to trade his laptop for a business suit.

Entrepreneur

In 2010, Jacomo founded GEMMA Suits. During his time with GEMMA, where he sold suiting fabric to mom and pop custom suit tailors, he realized that there were a few issues, which eventually discouraged him. Jacomo then partnered with his father in order to solve three major issues within the custom clothing industry: bad communication due to language barriers, long order fulfillment turnaround and lack of accessibility due to high price points.

BookATailor

In order to speed up the garment production, Fred Hakim invested $60,000 into a facility in Bangkok, which is responsible for fulfilling orders. In 2012, Jacomo launched BookATailer and through vertical integration, the brand was able to become more accessible and efficient.

Today, the brand has a total of 11 locations throughout the United States, seven of which are franchises and four remain corporately owned.
