The International Consortium of Healthcare Outcomes Measurements (ICHOM) is a non-profit organisation based in Boston, MA, and London, UK, that works with patients, leading providers, and registries to create a global standard for measuring results for the most relevant medical conditions.

History[edit]

ICHOM was founded in 2012 by Professor Michael Porter of the Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness at Harvard Business School, Stefan Larsson of Boston Consulting Group, and Martin Ingvar, former dean of research at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden. ICHOM grew out of the conviction that the universal development, tracking, and reporting of patient outcomes by medical condition is the single greatest way to transform delivery systems. In 2009, Professor Porter and BCG’s Stefan Larsson began discussing a partnership to accelerate outcomes measurement efforts worldwide.

Standard Sets[edit]

ICHOM Standard Sets are standardized outcomes, measurement tools, time points and risk adjustment factors for a given condition. The sets are developed by a consortium of experts and patient representatives in the field, and focus on the perspectives of the patient, with the goal of ensuring the patient remains at the center of their care. The Standard Sets can be implemented during treatment to monitor how patients respond to treatment, and to measure, analyze and improve outcomes achieved in the delivery of care. ICHOM continually review their published Standard Sets.
