Namchi is the district headquarter of the district of South Sikkim in the Indian state of Sikkim. It is situated at a distance of 78 kilometers (48 mi) from the state capital Gangtok. It is a town in the beautiful state of Sikkim and is the capital of the District of South Sikkim.

Tourist Attraction[edit]

Offering panoramic views of the mountain ranges and the valley below, Namchi is fast becoming a tourist spot and pilgrimage center. To boost the tourism in Namchi, a 2.74 km long cable car project was built by M/s. Damodar Ropeways & Infra Ltd, (DRIL). There are two sections, first section from PWD Rest House to Rock Garden and second section from Rock Garden to near Samdruptse Monastery. This ropeway was built on a difficult terrain towards the dual aim of providing eco-friendly and energy efficient system of transportation and development of tourism. The pilgrimage centers, natural wonders and bio-diversity of Namchi attracts flocks of visitors who come for the unmatched view of the Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world. Namchi has proved to be a very popular part of the itinerary of visitors to Sikkim.
