Amrita Kumari is an Indian women's professional footballer who plays as a center back for Bihar women at the youth levels while also representing the India women's national under-16 football team as captain.

Career[edit]

Early life[edit]

Kumari began her career during the junior women's nationals in 2012 when, pushed on by her coach, Sanjay Pathak, she played for the Bihar women's team. She lead her side to the final where they took on the Nagaland women's side and lost 0–1.[1]

International[edit]

After her performance in the junior nationals, Kumari was selected to join to represent India at the AFC U-14 Regional Championships in 2013. Passport and expense trouble however hampered Kumari and thus made it difficult for her to join the national set-up.[1] Sanjay Pathak had helped immensely with Kumari getting the expenses she needed to be in the national set-up.[1] She was then selected to captain India during the 2015 AFC U-16 Women's Championship qualifiers.[1]

Personal life[edit]

The daughter of a vegetable seller, Kumari comes from a family which does not live in the best conditions. "Electricity is a big problem at home. We mostly live in the dark. But football is my hope. My family supports me too," said Kumari.[1]
