Markham Bay is a bay in southern Baffin Island, on the Meta Incognita Peninsula. Amadjuak is located near the bay.

Birds[edit]

Many Common eider and Iceland gull (kumlieni subspecies) nest in the area, including 7% of Canada’s North Atlantic eider, a subspecies of Common eider.[1]

Minerals[edit]

Mineral exploration activity for gold and gemstones is being performed just east of Markham Bay.[1]


Islands[edit]

More than 20 small islands exist in the bay.

MacDonald Island[edit]

Located at 63°40′21″N 72°36′42″W / 63.672413°N 72.611580°W / 63.672413; -72.611580

Diopside crystals of an olive-green colour and 3 inches in size have been found there, as well as crystals of white Scapolite up to 5 inches in diameter.[2]

Garnet Island[edit]

A small island, located at 63°45′N 72°30′W / 63.750°N 72.500°W / 63.750; -72.500. Has gem quality garnet and cordierite.[3]
