Wood Island is a small island in the Bay of Fundy, located to the east of Grand Manan.
History[edit]
Samuel de Champlain and Pontgrave were driven ashore on the island in March of 1606, after anchoring in Seal Cove. They returned to Port Royal for repairs.[1]
On 20 March 1871, the Schooner Anna was wrecked on the island. Two of her crew were lost. She was on a voyage from Saint John, New Brunswick to Boston, Massachusetts.[2]
The island hosted a thriving fishing community named Greens Landing[3] until 1959, when fish stocks declined. Most residents moved to Grand Manan.[4] The only access to the island is by boat.[5]
The island is home to Metrioptera roeselii.[6]
