Kenny Meiselas (born October 23, 1956) is an American entertainment attorney known for representing some of the world's best known entertainers including Sean "Diddy" Combs, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Usher, Mary J. Blige, Chris Brown, Norah Jones, J. Cole and more.[1]

Background[edit]

Meiselas was born in Montgomery, Alabama to Harold and Roslyn Meiselas. He attended high school at Plainview High School in Plainview, NY. He received his bachelor's degree from Washington University in 1978 and his Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Hofstra Law School in 1981. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1982. Meiselas has been listed as a New York Super Lawyer since 2010.[2] He is a partner at Grubman, Indursky, & Shire P.C., New York's most powerful entertainment firm.[3]

Career[edit]

Meiselas' transactions include major renegotiation recording, publishing, touring, and merchandising deals in the music industry including for Lady Gaga, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Usher, Justin Bieber, Norah Jones, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Boy Records, Akon, Nas, Whitney Houston, Chris Brown and other superstar artists. Newsweek Magazine reporting on the renegotiation for Whitney Houston referred to Meiselas as the "star partner" at the Grubman Firm.[4] Meiselas has also negotiated major fragrance and apparel deals including for Sean John, Zach Posen, Marc Bouwer and Sweetface and represented Reebok in its media entertainment deals including the Reebok transactions with Jay Z, G-Unit, Pharrell, Nelly, Scarlett Johansson and others; and represented Samsung in connection with their media deals including in connection with a mobile sponsorship deal with Beyonce, a television deal with NBC and Bravo; as well as represented Chevrolet in connection with its sponsorship and branding transaction with T.I. In addition, Meiselas negotiated major "state of the art" sponsorship, touring, endorsement and branding deals including for Sean "Diddy" Combs with Burger King, Pepsi, Mercedes, Monster Headphones, Estes Lauder and Diageo (Ciroq voda); Usher with AEG, Sony Ericcsson, Remy, Belvedere, and the Armed Forces, Mary J. Blige with General Motors, Pepsi, Melodies Sunglasses, Citibank and Carol's Daughter, Mike Tyson with HBO and Warner Films, Nicki Minaj with MAC Cosmetics and 800 Flowers; Nas with Skechers and FILA, and many more similar transactions in entertainment and media.[5]

Meiselas was a featured panel speaker at the Billboard Syposium (Making the Brand)[6]; Lectured at Hofstra University School of Law at the request of the Dean and Entertainment Law Committee., and has been featured and written about in magazines including Billboard, Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal, LA Times, Entertainment Weekly and others.
