Steve & Marty Darvin receive National Honor for Standout Industry Leadership

Darvin Furniture & Mattress is an American furniture and mattress retailer based in Orland Park, Illinois. It is the Chicago metro area’s largest furniture and mattress store[2][3] and one of the Top 100 furniture retailers in the United States. The company will celebrate its 100th Anniversary in 2020. Darvin sells furniture, mattresses and accessories from a 220,000-square-foot showroom that includes a 10,000-square-foot Mattress Showroom, 35,000-square-foot Clearance & Outlet Center, Rug Gallery and more than 45 individual brand galleries. Founded by Louis Darvin in 1920 and succeeded by son David Darvin, the company is still operated by grandsons Steve and Marty Darvin.

History[edit]

Darvin first became a household name in 1920 when Louis Darvin began selling furniture door to door in Chicago[4]. In the 1940s, Louis and son, David, opened the first Darvin Furniture store in the West Pullman neighborhood of Chicago. In the 1970's, David's sons, Steve and Marty, joined the family business, and in 1980 a new facility was built in Orland Park, 25 miles south of downtown Chicago. Five expansions to the facility have been made since 1980. In 2000, Darvin opened its 218,000-square-foot distribution center in Mokena, Illinois[5], just three miles from the Orland Park showroom. With a tradition of selling quality furniture at low prices, Steve and Marty Darvin have managed the business since the 1970’s.

Store[edit]

A perennial Top-100 Furniture Retailer in the U.S.[6], in 2014, Darvin Furniture was ranked 71st, a distinction made more unique with Darvin being one of only two companies on the list with a single location. The Orland Park location has grown from its original three acres to a 13-acre campus featuring more than 200,000 square feet[7] of showroom. A new Mattress Center was added in 2009, a Clearance & Outlet Center added in 2015[8], and a full-service Rug Gallery added in 2015 and updated in 2017[9]. In 2018, a new exterior facade and entry way were developed to reflect the size of the full facility and to enhance the full Darvin shopping experience.
