Who am I?[edit]

Hello, I'm Bart. My username is also my real name. So google me if you like. But note that I am not the Flemish writer who has a page on the Dutch Wikipedia, and also not the musician who appears on some Wikipedia pages related to Belgian rock bands. The only thing I have in common with those guys, is that we're all Belgians.

I have a degree in Construction Engineering at the KU Leuven, where I made my first steps into finite element analysis. I ended up working for a university spin-off company in the year 2001, which was then later acquired by Siemens PLM Software. The bulk part of my career I have been working as a software consultant, support engineer, trainer, and technical account manager, mainly in the areas of noise and vibrations, and computational acoustics. I focused on automotive, heavy machinery, aviation and space applications.

At the very moment, I am part of Siemens PLM Software marketing division as a content creator. My job is to create articles for industry magazines, white papers, technical documentation, customer success stories etc. and to verify if we cover all of our products and industries in the right balance with those.

Most of my visits to Wikipedia are not job-related. I regularly quiz, and also organize quizzes for non-profit organizations. To that end, Wikipedia is for me a great help, and a wonderful source of inspiration.

COI[edit]

Where I would like to contribute rather than just visit, is obviously in the area where I am most comfortable writing, and that easily leads to COI, in particular on topics related to Computer-aided engineering, and especially related software packages, even if I try to keep a neutral POV. The nature of my job makes me, I'm afraid, a paid editor when it comes to product-related edits under Siemens PLM Software.

I try to do my best and follow the Wikipedia policies regarding this matter. But at the moment I am still unexperienced and learning, so any friendly feedback is welcome. Feel free to send me any concerns about my contributions.

Where I wish I had a COI[edit]

  • I did not become a professional soccer player
  • I did not become a professional actor
  • I did not become a master chef in a fancy restaurant
  • I did not become a professional cyclist (although I do still organize cycling trips for friends, especially in Southern Europe)

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me. I like to be transparent. And I also think I am required to, based on the areas where I wish to be active.
