Luck is the second studio album by the singer-songwriter Rise. Released under MW in March 12, 2001, it debuted atop and solidified its peak position for a record-breaking 16 weeks. A complete departure from balladry and minimal percussion, the album signified a genre switch from trip hop and neo soul to mainstream pop. Luck's sound can characterised by the fusion of upbeat dance-pop and hip hop music, Rise's voice that varied in tone, and chopped up beats.

During the recording period of the album at the Algebraic Studio, Rise, at age 18–19, had developed a tendency to take career risks and journaled her personal view of her ever-changing image. As she had difficulty adapting the prose into lyrics, labelmate Lean with longtime partner 12th Night aided her.

Critical reception[edit]

Luck was met with polarizing reactions — some criticised Rise for selling out her persona and "wasting" her musical potential whilst others complimented her vehement rebellion against the bygone juvenile chorister image.
