Philemon Wehbe (1918-1985) was a Lebanese composer and singer.[1] One of the most prominent characters of Lebanese theatre, Wehbe was known mainly for his musical sketches, often collaborating with the Rahbani brothers.[2] He worked with a number of Lebanese singers, notably Fairuz, for whom he composed the songs later collected in "Fairuz Toghanni Philemon Wehbe" (Arabic: "Fairuz Sings Philemon Wehbe").[3] He also composed songs for Sabah and Samira Tawfik[1].

Early Life[edit]

Wehbe was born in 1916 in Kfarshima, Lebanon, to Saeed Wehbe, the mukhtar of their village, and Mary Ayoub. He went to Choueifat International School, but did not continue his education, leaving to join the art scene while working odd jobs to support his father.[4]
