Wikipedia Project Outline: Eco-Cities
1. Introduction-basic definition
2. History-give the background of when the concept of Eco-Cities was first defined, the first Eco-Cities and why they were given that classification, and how it has grown to present day
3. Qualifications/Standards-the criteria that cities need to meet in order to qualify as an Eco-City
4. Practical Achievements
- A. Economic-impact on job creation/standards, economic benefits to making cities more environmentally sustainable
- B. Environmental Standards - exploration of practical environmental goals and standards that have been established in sustainable cities
- C. Social - Note improvements that have increased the standard of living within cities that have implemented Eco-City standards
- I. Poverty reduction-impact on slum areas
- II. Population distribution- decreased levels of urban density
- III. Public Health- improvements in patterns of disease and health trends
- D. Technology - Explore general trends in technological advancements that are making Eco-Cities more and more viable. Technological innovation in terms of energy, transportation, urban planning, communication, and more are relevant - in addition recent examples will be explored.
5. International Examples-reevaluate current examples of Eco-Cities, comprehensively explore their qualities as an Eco-City, and possibly add new cities to the list that are Eco-Cities.
- A. Add additional detail/edit examples: some of the examples given on the site have either unclear information and/or have inadequate information to be deemed an Eco-City.
- B. Add Johannesburg, South Africa (and any other cities we find that qualify): upon researching Eco-Cities, the city of Johannesburg came up numerous times, yet it is not listed on the Wikipedia cite itself. This city, and possibly others that are not listed should be added.
