Definitions[edit]

Mediterranean-type ecosystems (often abbreviated to MTEs) are ecosystems associated with Mediterranean-type climates. The Mediterranean forests, woodlands, and scrub biome is a geographic representation of their distribution representing one of 14 global terrestrial biomes in the WWF's bioregionalisation scheme.

== Both of which terms suffer from excessive hyphenation and geographic ambiguity. Of course climate classifications clearly define the boundaries of Mediterranean climates, but these boundaries are arbitrarily determined to relate to vegetation, ecosystems, agricultural zones or biomes (stated on Köppen climate classification but not Climate classification). This presents a conundrum if I want to talk about how/why we identify MTEs - they are defined by MTCs which are based on MTEs. I believe this is a version of bootstrapping.
