From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm a retired (since 2000) computer programmer and systems analyst. Currently residing in Oregon's beautiful Willamette Valley and raising 2 adorable grand daughters (9 and 13) with my husband, a 36 year Federal Employee retiree and Veteran.

In my free time, I like to read, research the family history (genealogy), garden, sew, quilt and embroider. I particularly enjoy playing with mixed media and planning a foray into book binding.

July 30, 2017: I have been mostly offline (though disengaged is probably a better description) since approximately February 2016 due to a number of health issues. Today I received an email from Wikipedia and have been trying to understand all the alerts I received.

One thing was clear. A lot of noise was made about my lack of continued engagement in an RfC and whether that made me a WP:MEAT.

For the record, I stopped contributing, or even caring, because of the treatment I received during my participation in the RfC.

Outside of the RfC I received harassing and intimidating emails and FB contacts. Within the RfC I was attacked (though the wording could be read as being polite, it was far from it) for not sufficiently understanding the rules. When I asked for assistance I was rebuffed and told to go learn it on my own.

From my perspective, Wikipedia's environment is very confusing and hard to learn for a beginner, even with someone with my former background, but also suffering from early onset dementia. Moreover, I was simply exhausted by (what I found to be) some of the pompous and self-serving biases of some of the editors.

For the record:

  • it is highly unlikely I will ever attempt to contribute again; and
  • I just figured out I have 2 accounts: Digging4Roots which shows I made edits in 2007 to my paternal grand uncle's page, Joe Gold and my father E. Mark Gold. I thought I had also made minor additions/corrections to my cousin Irving Zupick's page, but I am unable to find the page.
