John E. Wills, Jr. (b. 1936 d. 2017) was an American historian of East Asian and world history. He was a professor of history at University of Southern California from 1965 to his retirement in 2004. "[1] His core research has been on China’s relations with maritime Europeans from about 1500 to 1800 and long views of continuity and change in China’s culture and its foreign relations.
In 2017, Tonio Andrade and Kenneth Swope published a festschrift in honor of Wills, Early Modern East Asia: War, Commerce, And Cultural Exchange: Essays In Honor Of John E. Wills, Jr. [2]
