Keita Terazono (Japanese: 寺園 啓太, Hepburn: Terazono Keita, born July 4, 2001), known mononymously as Keita (Korean케이타; Japanese: ケイタ), is a Japanese singer, rapper, dancer, and songwriter based in South Korea. He is the only Japanese member of the South Korean boy group Ciipher under RAIN COMPANY..[1]

Life and career[edit]

2018–2019: Pre-debut[edit]

Keita started training as an idol in YG Japan in 6th grade of elementary school[2]. Keita's first public appearance was in 2018 as a contestant in YG Treasure Box (YG 보석함), a survival show by YG Entertainment aimed to produce the boy group Treasure (band).[3] At that time, Keita was one of the seven trainees who competed on the show from YG Japan, the company’s Japanese branch.[4] However, he was eliminated during the ninth episode of the show.

2021–Present: Debut with Cipher[edit]

Main article: Ciipher

In March 15, 2001, Keita officially debuted as a member of Ciipher, which was produced by singer Rain (entertainer) (Jung Ji-hoon). Since then, the group has produced three mini-albums: I Like You, Blind, and The Code.

2022–2023: Boys Planet[edit]

In 2022, Ciipher halted all promotions while Keita and fellow Ciipher member, Tag participated in Boys Planet, a reality survival show created by Mnet aimed at creating a 9-member 5th generation global group[5]. Boys Planet premiered on February 2, 2023.

During the Star Level Test, Keita performed "Zero For Conduct" by Bastarz with the Osakaz Team. During the performance, Keita was praised by the mentors for his rapping skills, beautiful smile, and relaxed and stable live performance[6]. In the first mission, Keita performed Blackpink's "Kill This Love" as the Main Rapper with fellow G-Group trainees.[7] Recognized for his skills, Keita ranked 8th in the first eliminations of the show (Episode 6)[8]. In the "Dual Position Battle" mission, Keita showed his leadership skills as he led the "rap and dance" team that performed Jessi's "ZOOM"[9]. Because of his consistency, Keita maintained his 8th ranked during the 2nd elimination of the show. In the "Artist Battle" Mission, Keita performed the song "Switch" (Oriental Pop) with the members of the Gguggugi (꾹꾹이) team [10]. During the third elimination, Keita's rank rose to 6th place[11]. However, he ranked 12th during the finals, failing to debut in the group ZEROBASEONE.

2023: Collaboration with pH-1 (rapper)[edit]

Korean-American rapper pH-1 was the rap mentor on Boys Planet, in which Keita participated. During his "About Damn Time" tour, pH-1 announced that he and Keita were working on a song together which was titled "Metronome"[12]
