Hong Kil Dong (Korean: 홍길동) is a North Korean film published in 1986.[1]

Plot[edit]

Plot of the film revolves around a love story and a fight against feudal injustice.[1][2][3]

Cast[edit]

Protagonist Hong Kil Dong was played by Ri Yong Ho.[3]

Production[edit]

Shin Sang-ok had collaborated, after his abduction to North Korea, with Kim Se Ryun and Kim Kil In in production of an earlier film known as Thousand Miles Along the Railroad. However, Hong Kil Dong's production was finalized only after Shin Sang-ok had fled from North Korea. Hong Kil Dong was the first North Korean martial arts film that was made in the style of Hong Kong action cinema.[3]

Hong Kil Dong was shot on 11 standard 35 mm film reels in color.[2]

Audience response[edit]

The film was reportedly very well received in the countries of former Eastern Bloc.[3]
