Comments as to project scope.

The project was started after discussion on several pages, Uk Wikipedians, Project England and UK geography chat being the main ones. During the course of these chats the talk of creating one project for each county was, and still is being, discussed.

I originally wished to create a "Norfolk" only project, but as the link between the two counties of Norfolk and Suffolk is fairly lengthy, I decided to include Suffolk after chat with another two editors.

My reasons were that I spend, and have spent, a fair amount of time in Suffolk as do many Norfolk people, and the counties historical links as well as their similarities drew me to that conclusion. The final reason that pushed me towards this was the seeming lack of editors for Suffolk, although I am sure this could be changed. Many of the editors working on Norfolk also have worked on Suffolk articles and so I felt this would give both the best equal chance of TLC.

I do not really mind if the two are separated into "Project Norfolk" and "Project Suffolk" as I would probably just join both lol. Personally I do not think that it would be wise to go bigger than that. I did toy with "East Anglia" but that again would mean opening up to Cambridgeshire and Essex, and as the current discussion is for a separate proj for each county I think it would be inappropriate to go any bigger, thus I ruled out East of England as well as East Anglia.

Discussion[edit]

  • Essex could probably do with its own WikiProject. Jolly Ω Janner 12:26, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

I have been talked out of "East Anglia" but I still think its best to combine Norfolk and Suffolk. As I mentioned before, the larger the catchment area, the more active the project will become. I did speak about individual counties on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject England, but I prefer the idea of merging if there is suitable grounds for doing so. Having said that, as far as working on articles are concerned, I would be concentrating on Norfolk, so I would be just as happy if Norfolk was its own project. I guess it's your call. I don't know much about either counties... come to think of it, I don't know anything about them. From what I've heard from you, there is a good reason to merge both counties for a WikiProject. There aren't many south folk around, so it sounds like a good idea.
