From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Furniture Choice is a British furniture retailer specialising in living room, dining room and bedroom furniture. The company's main focus is e-commerce, distinguishing themselves from brick and mortar competitors such as Barker and Stonehouse or Ikea.

The company was founded in Slough in 2005 before moving to it's current headquarters in Mirfield, West Yorkshire[1] with extensive warehouses in nearby Heckmondwike.

History[edit]

Furniture Choice was founded in 2005 by Tom and Howard Obbard, focusing exclusively on online retail.

In 2015, the company’s website and online shop was relaunched with a new e-commerce front.[2] The decision was also made to offer both free delivery and free returns [3] in order to distinguish themselves from other furniture retailers. The Boxing Day Floods at the end of 2015 that affected much of the UK caused damage to 10% of stock and the firm considered moving from their Mirfield location[4].

Furniture Choice struck a deal with ITV in 2016 where they agreed to provide the sofas for Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway's segment 'Sofa Watch' where members of the public were encouraged to find one of 4 sofas hidden in mystery locations throughout the UK.[5][6] They continued to supply them for all 3 seasons of Sofa Watch.[7]

In 2017 the company was nominated for a Media in Manchester Northern Digital Award[8] and a UK Search Award the same year for notably growing a business online.[9] In the same year they reported sales had surpassed £10 million, making them one of the largest online-only furniture retailers in the UK.[10]

Fly Tipping Campaign[edit]

In response to the growing problem of fly tipping in the United Kingdom,[11] Furniture Choice conducted extensive research into the causes and in response developed an interactive recycling tool to identify local furniture recycling centres.[12] The firm continue to conduct research in this area[13][14] highlighting the worst affected locations[15] and which councils are actively tackling the issue.[16][17]

Charity[edit]

Furniture Choice has held fundraising events for Children in Need, Comic Relief, the British Heart Foundation and Save the Children.[18]
