There will be a new question or two added every couple of days, but only when you have finished the existing set. I won't add new questions when, judging by your editing patters, you probably won't be around to answer them. Cheers!

Month of November[edit]

Set one[edit]

1. Briefly tell what a usergroup is, list three specific usergroups, and describe what each of those usergroups does.

A: A user group is a set of users with certain permissions granted to preform specific tasks.
I. Autoconfirmed Users - Users that have made at least 10 edits and have been a member for at least 4 days. They can edit semi-protected pages, move pages, upload new files/new version of an existing file, and aren't required to enter a CAPTCHA to preform certain actions.
checkYAnimum (talk) 23:39, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
II. Administrator - Can delete, undelete, and protect pages and block and unblock users. Also can give users rollback permissions, exempt an IP block, and give users account creator permissions.
checkYAnimum (talk) 23:39, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
III. Bureaucrat - Can promote users to Administrator or Bureaucrat user groups (but not demote), mark and unmark certain users as bots, and can rename users.
checkYAnimum (talk) 23:39, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

2. Give three examples of a page (real or imaginary) that is not notable. You can choose different notability guidelines (WP:MUSIC, WP:BIO, etc.), and please tell which guideline corresponds to which example.

A:
I. An article on my best friend would obviously fail WP:N and WP:BIO because no reliable secondary source has yet to publish anything on her.
checkYAnimum (talk) 23:39, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
II. The number 84,935,782 isn't notable by WP:NUMBER because it doesn't have enough unrelated significant properties, no cultural significance, and no mathematicians have written anything on it.
checkY In discussions, use WP:NUMBER instead of WP:NUMBERS. Animum (talk) 23:39, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
III. My science teacher isn't notable by WP:TEACHER. He hasn't done any research that has been published in any way, hasn't achieved anything prestigious on a national level, etc.
checkYAnimum (talk) 23:39, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Note: I hope I understood you correctly on #2.

Set Two[edit]

1. For each of the following scenarios, tell what, if any, action is appropriate. —Animum (talk) 23:39, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

I. Vandal X vandalizes Article Y past a level-four warning.
A: Article Y is reverted to last non-vandalized edit. If the previous warnings are recent, report to WP:AIV. Admin may block.
checkYAnimum (talk) 02:07, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
II. Vandal X vandalizes Article Y past a level-two warning.
A: Article Y is reverted to last non-vandalized edit. {{uw-v2}} or {{uw-v3}} is left on User talk depending on severity of vandalism ({{uw-v3}} is most likely.)
checkYAnimum (talk) 02:07, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
III. A multitude of different vandals have targeted a specific page 15 times in a two-day time frame.
A: Can be reported to WP:RfPP for temporary or indefinite semi-protection (temp. if vandalism is because of media attention, indef. if article will continue to be vandalized from general popularity.)
checkYAnimum (talk) 02:07, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
IV. A vandal, for the first time, blanks a page.
A: WP:AGF. Revert the edit, and put {{uw-b1}} on the vandal's User talk. Unless, of course, the user is a repeated vandal, and this is the first time they've just blanked. Then {{uw-b2}} or {{uw-b3}} could possibly be used.
checkYAnimum (talk) 02:07, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
V. The only contributor to a page blanks it.
A: This is most likely going to be taken as a request for speedy deletion per WP:CSD#G7 (except in User: namespace).
checkYAnimum (talk) 02:07, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
VI. User X is using sockpuppets to revert User Y continuously on Article Z.
A: If sock puppetry is suspected, it can be confirmed at suspected sock puppets or, if IP check is required, request for checkuser. Since the WP:3RR applies to each user and not each account, User X should be reported to WP:AN3 for further action by an sysop.
checkYAnimum (talk) 02:07, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
VII. A new user with the name "Youcansuckmyballs10293948" is created.
A: This username is disruptive/offensive. Should be reported to WP:UAA if a bot doesn't catch it (although that's pretty unlikely with those huge libraries of regex-es) and a message should be left on the user talk page. This username is unlikely to have the "Wait until first edit" tag, but to instead contact the user. They could be urged to make an account in accordance with the WP:Username policy and have that account indef blocked. If they do edit and it turns out to be vandalism, the account could be blocked with autoblock and account creation enabled.
checkYAnimum (talk) 02:07, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
VIII. A new user by the name of "Yourmom22" is created.
A: This username could possibly be disruptive, and the user would probably be urged to create a new account with a different name. Most users would probably wait until first edit before taking action.
checkY Right, the name itself isn't disruptive (no slurs or otherwise offensive material is in the name), but the user should make another account. —Animum (talk) 02:07, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
IX. An image on the English Wikipedia is available as a bit-for-bit copy on the Wikimedia Commons.
A: Available for speedy deletion per WP:CSD#I8 if it doesn't have a {{do not move to Commons}}, {{c-uploaded}}, or like template on the page. {{c-uploaded}} images meet I8 as soon as they are off of the Main page.
checkYAnimum (talk) 02:07, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
X. A user inserts unreferenced libel into an article on a living person.
A: "It is Wikipedia policy to delete libellous material when it has been identified." from WP:LIBEL, so obviously it should be deleted. The user should be notified by {{uw-blp1}}-{{uw-blp4}} depending on number of occurrences.

Month of December[edit]

Set Three[edit]

1. (Optional, but recommended) As a well-rounded editor will make content contributions, a knowledge of grammar, sentence mechanics, and spelling is desirable. Please copy the sentences below and correct the error(s), if there are any. —Animum (talk) 03:11, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

III. Nobody owns their own articles.
No one owns their articles.
☒N Admittedly, this one is controversial — different people will give you different answers, both of which can be considered correct. Nonetheless, to avoid offending people who dislike the singular "they," I advise against using a plural possessive with a singular antecedent. You don't have to make a waffling sentence like "Nobody owns his or her own articles" to avoid breaking this (contentious) rule; it can be eloquently put as "Nobody owns any articles." —Animum (talk) 02:20, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

South America is home to Capybaras, the largest living rodents in the world.
checkY Another acceptable rephrasing would have been, among others, "Capybaras, the largest living rodents in the world, make their homes in South America." —Animum (talk) 02:20, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
VII. The three year old boy climbed to the top of Matterhorn on his fathers back.

2. Describe what MediaWiki's parser functions are, and briefly outline and give examples of the parser functions listed below (please don't use examples already given on Meta's help page). The raw code need not be displayed. —Animum (talk) 03:11, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Construct similar to templates that returns a value based on the function used and the parameter(s) set.
checkY Right. A fact of possible note: some parser functions (such as {{#time:}}) were preceded by magic words (such as {{CURRENTDAY}}). —Animum (talk) 02:20, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
#expr:
Evaluates mathematical expressions of numbers and operators to either a numerical result or a boolean value.
1 (Boolean showing that π is not equal to 22/7)
checkYAnimum (talk) 02:20, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
#if:
Evaluates text in an if-then-else construct that returns any non-empty, non-whitespace value as true.
π = 22/7 ("0" is text, and text is TRUE.)
checkYAnimum (talk) 02:20, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
#ifexist:

Displays a specified part of a link given (parts being subpages separated by slashes).
2007-09-03/SPV
Note: I understand how to use this parser function, but I can't figure out a good use for it.
checkY Honestly, the only time I've ever had to use this is when something was messing up {{talkarchive}}. It has very specialized uses and, as such, isn't used very often. —Animum (talk) 02:20, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
#switch:
Compares a single value against multiple others. In none match, the default (last parameter) is used.
