The Mexican Hat Dance in Iraq (Original) During Operation Iraqi Freedom 2009-2010 a few soldiers, prompted by the heartfelt desire to boost morale in their company in particular and the military in general, produced a video that would change the way the war in Iraq is looked at from that point forward. As the video describes, the event took place on June 30, 2010 in Baghdad Iraq. Although it may appear that it was planned, in reality, it was not. Filmed by Spc. Perches, Sgt. Simmons and Spc. Windham attempted to perform the “cupid shuffle” when Sgt. Espinoza, being a vigilant NCO, spotted from afar soldiers struggling. He sought to quickly lend a hand bringing Spc. Brown as a security element. He approached Sgt. Simmons and Spc. Windham, seeking to expand the minds of the young soldiers he led them in a different direction by introducing them to “the Mexican Hat Dance”. His skill set in this area is apparent if you watch the video. Spc. Ruhl caught wind of this event and immediately saw the potential that the video had. The result, of course, came to be known as “The Mexican Hat Dance in Iraq (Original)”. The public attention speaks volumes about the influence the video has had. Within an hour of it being uploaded to "You Tube" the video broke 100 hits. In 24 hours the hits climbed to over 300! The video has blended and unified cultures on a grand scale. The tying together of the American, Latino and Arabic cultures forms a culturally unified triangle that is unsurpassed. This has the potential to act as Americas most powerful weapon in the war on terrorism as of yet. The “Mexican Hat Dance in Iraq”, if nothing else, has come to show those watching, that even after 8 years of being engaged in the war on terrorism in Iraq, Americas desire to win the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people and spread cultural diversity has not been lost. Those behind this video have been rumored to be working on a blog that seeks to engage the public in conversation about things touched on in the "You Tube" video and/or things pertinent to life in general.
