Boomball is a game mostly played at schools. It has many different types of the game, and it is very simple and easy to play. Boomball is mostly considered a combination of wallball and Four square. Boomball started getting more well-known around the years 2015 and 2016. Though it is unknown who created it, many people still play it today.

Modes[edit]

There are currently three known modes of boomball, which are Original, Battle Royale, and Ultimate/Advanced.

Original Boomball Objective[edit]

The objective of the original boomball is the simplest of the three modes. It is also really similar to four square. The first thing you need, like all boomball games, is a box, around 10 feet tall. One of the sides of the box will be removed, looking like a sideways open cardboard box. One person takes the role of "King" and takes position at the back of the box. Other people will stand at the entrance in a line. Once the person is in front of the "King", they will play against them. The "King" will serve the ball to the top, bottom, left side, or right side by throwing it there which will end in a bounce. Once the ball has bounced once, the challenger will hit it to the opposite wall if bounced to a wall, or any wall but the back if bounced on the ceiling or floor. Once the ball bounces to the floor, the next person will bounce it to the opposite wall. If a player catches a ball, they are out because they are supposed to hit it. Both players will try to keep the other player from making the ball bounce twice on the ground, because if the ball bounces twice, the person who last touches it gets to other player out. If the challenger beats the "King", they become the "King". If the ball touches the back wall or the first 1 foot from the ground of a wall, they are out. If the "King" gets out, the challenger will become the "King".

Powerups[edit]

In certain Original Boomball games, there can be something allowed called "Powerups". There are many different powerups. Powerups are used to give a player an advantage during a game of original boomball. Every player gets to choose a powerup before a game.

  • Pound - The pound powerup lets players hit as hard as they can to a wall. They only have one chance to use it. If they use a 2nd pound, they are out.
  • Kick - The kick powerup lets players use their feet during the game. A player with a kick powerup only has the chance to use it once, similar to the pound powerup.
  • Reverse - The reverse powerup lets players bounce toward the ground. Normally, players bounce the ball to the wall then ground, but this powerup reverses the rules, making players hit the ground first with the ball, then the wall. Players can use it throughout the game.
  • Magic Wall Trick - This powerup can only be used by the challengers, not the king. It is also a very risky powerup to choose. First, the challenger will bounce the ball to the wall, which will bounce off to the back wall. If this happens, the king is out. If the king blocks it by not letting it bounce to the back wall, the challenger is out. If it bounces to the back wall first, the challenger is out.
  • Catchy - This powerup allows players to hold the ball for up to 3 seconds. If 3 seconds pass, that person is out. Players can use this powerup as many times as they want.

Boomball Battle Royale Objective[edit]

Like all battle royale games, the objective is to be the last person standing. This mode has the a similar court as the original boomball court. In one game, there are two teams. There can be up to 10 players in a team. One team lines up against a wall, and the other team lines up on a parallel wall. One team (usually the one at the back) starts with the ball. The person in the middle has the role of the "team leader". Players on each team can pass the ball to each other by bouncing the ball on the ground or wall. If it bounces more than one time, you get out. To get other players out, players will have to bounce the ball once and hit the wall with the other team lined up on it. If the ball goes right above a player's head, they are out. If a player is trying to bounce it to the other team's wall, the other team can intercept it by catching it before it hits their wall. If no one is left on a team, the other team wins.

Ultimate/Advanced Boomball Objective[edit]

The first thing you need in order to play this game is a large room/area (such as a soccer field or a gym). Mats or other large things can be used in the game, so players can hide behind them. It is suggested to play this game with bouncy dodge balls. There are 2 or more teams with each team having the same number of players. Each player gets one ball. Each team starts at different sides/corners of the room. Players can wear jerseys to make sure that they will not be attacking their teammates. Dodge balls or bouncy balls will be scattered across the room/area. Players from other teams can throw balls at the players that aren't on their team. Also, players can't go without any balls. A solution to this is to carry 2 balls and throw one while necessary, and quickly grab a second one again. The team that still has players remaining wins.

Ways To Get Out[edit]

Original Boomball[edit]

  • If a player hits the ball to the same wall that the other player hit the ball to.
  • If a player takes two turns in a row.
  • If a player hits the back wall with the ball. If the player has no magic wall trick, they are out. If they have magic wall trick and they hit the back wall first, they are also out.
  • If a player hits the 1 foot tall red line at the bottom of each wall.
  • If the other player bounces the ball twice.

Boomball Battle Royale[edit]

  • If a player gets a ball bounced above them by the other team.
  • If the player bounces twice.

Ultimate/Advanced Boomball[edit]

  • If the ball hits you.
  • If you have no balls left.
