It seems the second wave of rugby in Moncton came in the early 1970s, seeded by students of Atlantic universities and some immigration from the old world. Rugby had waned in popularity after the second world war as American rules football and Canadian rules football evolved out of the sport of rugby, by initially introducing the forward pass.
In 1982, the Moncton Marshhawks wsom the Rugby Union B League Regular Season Champions with a 10-0-1 season.
The Times (an earlier form of the Times & Transcript of today) interviewed Kim MacPherson, a 27 year old school teacher Moncton from Moncton. He had played four seasons for the UNB Red Bombers as a middle linebacker in the mid-'70s 6 feet 205 pounds. He was first introduced to rugby union in 1977.
The Marshhawks were formed circa 1972.
Moncton was to play Mount Allison Mounties for the provincial B title Sunday, November 14 at 2pm at Riverview Junior High School. This was their 10th season.
The team listed 25 players - Bob Wallace and Paul Arsenault were on the selection committee.
Laws of the game at the time: you could only make two subs per half and then only for injury! To fight was an automatic game ejection. Try = 4 points Convert = 2 Penalties = 3 points (drop goal too)

Moncton used to hold an Invitational tournament, starting in 1978.
In 1982, Mount Allison Mounties defeated the UNB Ironment by a score of 7-3 to win the Chris Rock Trophy.
