From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Surb Anapat monastery is an Armenian church around 2 miles north of Sivas,Turkey.

History[edit]

Surb Anapat monastery is one of two Armenian monasteries that were near the city of Sivas,Turkey. The monastery is significant because it was not destroyed during the Armenian Genocide, and is used unofficially by local Crypto Armenians as a place where they can get buried, as it has a small graveyard that was setup sometime in the 1940s after the old one was destroyed. As for the old graveyard, that was destroyed in the 1930s and on top of the site there are now train tracks. The church is inaccessible to visitors but it can be assumed that it is well maintained as it has a metal door and from the outside appears to be structurally sound.[1]
