Islam Borinca is a social scientist specialized in social psychology. He is a Lecturer/Assistant Professor in the School of Psychology at University College Dublin in Dublin, Irland[2].

Education and Career[edit]

Borinca received his undergraduate and postgraduate education from the University of Pristina (Kosovo) in Psychology (BA) and School and Educational Psychology (MSc). In 2016 he won the scholarship of excellence[3] from the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation and transferred to the University of Geneva and the University of Lausanne (Switzerland) in September 2016 to pursue PhD studies in Intergroup Relations in Social Psychology[4].

After receiving his PhD in Social Psychology from the Universities of Geneva and Lausanne, he worked as a teaching/research assistant at the Emile Bernheim Center at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Brussels; Belgium). After that, he did his postdoctoral studies at the University of Limerick (Ireland) where he worked with Prof. Orla Muldoon[5], Orla Muldoon, before moving to the School of Psychology at University College Dublin (Ireland) [6]in 2022.

Research Interest[edit]

Borinca's primary interest lies in intergroup relations, particularly examining helping, contact, and group norms, with an emphasis on emotions, empathy, dehumanization, meta-dehumanization, intergroup forgiveness, prejudice, and discrimination in hostile and nonhostile contexts.[7][8][9][10][11][12][13]He also investigates gender norms, gender roles and behaviours.[14] In addition, his research examines in-group processes related to threats, expectations, and health.
