Priyadarsini Govind (born 1 February 1965) is an Indian classical dancer and choreographer, and an exponent of the Vazhuvoor style of Bharatnatyam. She received the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2010 for her contribution to Bharatanatyam dance.[1] She served as the director of the Kalakshetra foundation from 2013 to 2017. [2]

Early life[edit]

Born on in Chennai, she received her initial training in Bharatanatyam from Shrimati Usha at the age of 6. By the age of nine, she started training with Kalanidhi Narayanan, one of the best teachers of abhinaya. She went on training with Narayan regularly until 2011. [3] She was later groomed in the art under S.K. Rajarathnam Pillai of the Vazhuvoor school until his death in 1994. Cite error: The <ref> tag has too many names (see the help page). Career[edit]

She has been giving recitals from the age of 16 and has performed in numerous Sabhas and academies in India and abroad. Priyadarsini is the recipient of Tamil Nadu government’s Kalaimamani award in 1998. [5] [6] [7]
