Main Article: List of free-to-air TV channels in New Zealand

As of 2012 the Freeview platform has 17 television channels and 4 radio stations.[1]

Up to 18 channels will be available, with six each assigned to TVNZ and MediaWorks, and the balance to other networks.[2] Given that TVNZ's and MediaWorks's current free-to-air channels will be available on Freeview, there will be eight extra channels in total, between the two.

Freeview has its own eight-day electronic programme guide, named Freeview EPG; TVNZ's Teletext service is also available.[3] On Freeview Satellite the EPG is transmitted in both EIT and MHEG-5 formats. On Freeview|HD, the EIT has Present/Following and the text for only six schedule events per channel transmitted with full text scheduling available only via a MHEG-5 stream.[4]

High priority/bit rate nationwide channels (1 to 19)[edit]

Unless otherwise stated, channels are available on both satellite and terrestrial in all areas.[5] They also on a higher paying tier.[6]

Low priority/bit rate nationwide channels (20 to 29)[edit]

Unless otherwise stated, channels are availalbe on both satellite and terrestrial in all areas.[5] They also on a lower paying or subsidized tier.[8]

Local Kordia Inserted channels (30 to 39)[edit]

These channels can only be accessed from specific regional DVB-T transmitter sites. None of these can be accessed on satellite.[5]

High Priority Nationwide Radio channels (50 to 69)[edit]

Low Priority Nationwide Radio channels (70 to 79)[edit]

Local non-Kordia channels (40 to 49)[edit]

These channels are broadcast on a independent DVB-T regional frequency and use the same numbering system that Freeview use. However they are not registered with Freeview.
