Hello World. ^_^.[edit]

My name is Colorful Socks. I am a student of the social sciences and plan to engage the universe of wikis with small edits, mostly involving grammar. I hope to move on to expand neglected pages regarding any myriad of subjects that catch my interest. This account was made for a wiki anthro class a few years back, and I still enjoy beginning pages on obscure subjects or adding references and making small edits to articles that need them.

What is NPOV?[edit]

According to the 2nd Pillar of Wikipedia, NPOV describes a mainstream perspective, in a balanced manner- i.e. also includes or acknowledges an alternative point of view.

"Evolution may in the long term lead to speciation, whereby a single ancestral species splits into two or more different species. Speciation is visible in anatomical, genetic and other similarities between groups of organisms, geographical distribution of related species, the fossil record and the recorded genetic changes in living organisms over many generations." The key word here is 'may,' it indicates that such speciation is not guaranteed. This sentence is followed by several methods that verify or demonstrate how this statement is, in fact, likely true.

"In the 19th century, particularly after the publication of On the Origin of Species in 1859, the idea that life had evolved was an active source of academic debate centered on the philosophical, social and religious implications of evolution. Nowadays, the modern evolutionary synthesis is accepted by a vast majority of scientists.[13] However, evolution remains a contentious concept for some theists.[277]" This statement from the evolution article describes Darwinian Evolution as largely accepted, but that there are still some who disagree.

The importance of using two statements to demonstrate NPOV is to 1) emphasis that the mainstream perspective needs to be supported 2) and the alternative perspective(s) need to be acknowledged- by which I mean identified or indicated and their viewpoints explained.

Why does the high-lighted stuff fall to the bottom? Delightful. The highlighted bits have stopped falling to the bottom. I'm not sure why.
