Signature[edit]

Unfortunately, there is a restriction on the length of your signature of 255 characters; this posed a problem. I wanted to link to my contributions as my last link, and hopefully to be able to specify to only show contributions from the article namespace.

Taking the normal route here resulted in my signature being too long so I tried to create a redirect from a page on my userspace with a shorter URL to Special:Contributions/Control-alt-delete. This didn't work, and I found out why. Turns out redirects to special pages have been disabled[1]

So I tried redirecting to the full URL (which would actually allow me to specify the namespace then too) - you can't do that either; you may only redirect to pages within the Wiki.

There is no way I could shorten my signature enough, and still keep it looking how I wanted, to be able to include my contributions, so I instead decided to use my favourites page as my last link. One problem with that: I'm one character over my limit.

Cue the ingenious idea, I switched the colour reference of #000080 to the word 'navy' and now I'm under my limit and have this beautiful sig:

Now only one issue remains: it ain't that beautiful if you don't use Firefox. If you do use Firefox, here's what it looks like to Internet Explorer users:

If you're an Internet Explorer user, here's a screenshot of why you should switch to Firefox:

Signature (followup)[edit]

Turns out you can just set your signature to transclude a page, so, I set my sig to {{User:Control-alt-delete/Sig}} and now I can put as much code as I want in my sig (:

Which means, I can now add a link to my contributions. Only problem is, if I want to specify the namespace to just article namespace, it puts a horrible little image next to it to open it in a new window like so which looks like this in my sig:

Control-alt-delete ★ usertalkcontribfavs

So, I've had to make do with a contrib link to all of my contribs, which includes messing with my userspace. Oh well! If you have an idea of how to get around this, leave me a message on my talk page! So, here's my finished sig:

Signature (final)[edit]

Turns out you can wrap a link inside <span class="plainlinks"></span> and it will remove the arrow next to the link, which means I can specify a namespace.

However, it only applies to links inside external link tags, i.e. [[ ]] and not internal links inside [ ], which also means the link is permenantly blue and doesn't go purple when clicked, so it looks like the odd one out. So, we're gonna have to put all of the links as external links. Here we are, my final finished sig :D

Signature (definitely final)[edit]

This time, it turns out that templates aren't allowed in signatures[2], as was pointed out in a section of my talk page... damn! Back to this version:

Signature (I mean it this time)[edit]

Now it turns out the sig can't be more than a line long (including padding), see the bottom of User_talk:Control-alt-delete#Your signature (4 April 2009) so this is THE final version.. lol..
