Ahmed Mohamed al-Mousa, also known as al-Mousa, (ca. 1992 – December 16, 2015), a Syrian Editor[1] for the media collective known as Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently (RBSS) in Idlib, Syria, was known for his reporting during the reign of isis terrorists, as well as his death at the hands of the isis group, and was involved in reporting on the cruelties going on during the Syrian Civil War, eventually to be killed in Idlib, Syria.
Personal[edit]
al-Mousa, (full name being Ahmed mohamed al-Mousa), was a young man in his early twenties, (twenty three)[1] living in Syria. He had a father, as well as other relatives that ended up being kidnapped by isis.[2] He was of Syrian origin and started fairly early in his life as an editor/reporter.
Career[edit]
al-Mousa was an editor for the RBSS, and reported on the war crimes being committed in Syria during their civil war.[1]
Death[edit]
al-Mousa was reportedly found dead with two gunshot wounds to the head due to being caught and killed by masked men.[3] He was killed in Idlib, Syria, on December 16, 2015. al-Mousa was 23 years old when he died.[1]

Context[edit]
The Syrian civil war was a place where there were rebels and isis fighters fighting against each other. This was a bloody conflict and had a hard time of being reported on.[1] The reporters that al-Mousa belonged to called themselves collectively as Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently (RBSS).[3]
Impact[edit]
al-Mousa had a major impact on the world, and especially the reporting world. For example the Director-General of UNESCO states "“I condemn the murder of Ahmad Mohamed al-Mousa..., It is an unacceptable tragedy for society as a whole when those who contribute to public debate and to the free flow of information are made to pay with their lives for doing their important work.”[4] The Director-General of UNESCO was obviously outraged. This is just one example of the impact that al-Mousa had in the world of reporters. Furthermore in the BBC article referenced above it states '“Just a few weeks ago, nearly 900 journalists, press freedom advocates, and supporters attending CPJ's International Press Freedom Awards stood together in solidarity with Raqqa Is Being Slaughtered Silently. Today we are all standing together again, this time in mourning," said CPJ Executive Director Joel Simon."'[2] This is just one more example of the impact that he had on the world around him.

2015 International Press Freedom Award[edit]
al-Mousa partially helped RBSS to receive the 2015 International Press Freedom Award,[1] in his reporting. This was an award that was given due to conspicuous bravery and hard work/dedication to journalism and reporting.[1]
Reactions[edit]
There were many angered responses from people such as the Director-General of UNESCO, Irana Bokova, and the CPJ (Committee to Protect Journalists), all of them swearing to investigate and defend the journalists.[3][4] Irana Bokova said the above statement to further validate this claim,(see section 7, Impact).
