Donetsk National University of Economics and Trade named after Mikhail Tugan-Baranovsky (DonNUET) is one of the oldest leading higher educational institutions in Ukraine, the successor of the Kiev cooperative institute named after M.I. Tugan-Baranovsky and the Kharkov Institute of Soviet Trade.

On January 1, 1920, on the initiative of the Central Ukrainian Cooperative Committee in Kyiv, the Cooperative Institute named after Professor M. I. Tugan-Baranovsky was opened. The educational institution is based on the funds of cooperative institutions of Ukraine. In various documents of that time he is referred to as the Kyiv Cooperative Institute named after Professor Tugan-Baranovsky, the Higher Cooperative Institute named after Professor M. I. Tugan-Baranovsky, the Ukrainian Cooperative Institute named after Professor M. I. Tugan-Baranovsky. Since 2007, it has a national status.

History of University[edit]

The initiators of the main innovations in the university's activity, the main driving force of development, were the leaders in science and education were the rectors of the university, among them the first rector, Ptukh MV, then Academician Vobliy K. G., Prof. P. Rudenko, P. T., Minkevich S. A., Ivanchinin O. D., Bairachny O. A., Fesenko F. D., Filippov V. M., Soroka I. V.

The history of DonNUET consists of four major development periods

Kyiv period[edit]

  • 1920  — Cooperative Institute named after Professor MI Tugan-Baranovsky was opened in Kyiv
Mikhail Ivanovich Tugan-Baranovsky is a prominent Ukrainian and Russian economist.
  • 1921 — Kyiv Cooperative Institute named after M.I. Tugan-Baranovsky joined the Kyiv Institute of National Economy, the cooperative-food faculty was founded on its basis 
  • 1922 — the Department of Food and Co-operative Faculty (former Cooperative Institute named after Prof. M. I. Tugan-Baranovsky) was separated from the Kyiv Institute of National Economy and the Kiev Highest Cooperative College was organized. 
  • 1926 — Kyiv Cooperative Technical School turned into Cooperative Institute named after. V. Ya Chubar 
  • 1930 — on the basis of the Faculty of Consumer Cooperatives of the Cooperative Institute. V. Ya. Chubary was organized by the Kyiv Institute of Consumer Cooperatives

Kharkiv period[edit]

  • 1934 —  All-Ukrainian Institute of Consumer Cooperation
  • 1936  —  Ukrainian Institute of Soviet Trade
  • 1940  —  Kharkiv Institute of Soviet Trade
  • 1959  — The Kharkov Institute of Soviet Trade transferred students of the All-Union Correspondence Institute of Soviet Trade, who lived on the territory of the Ukrainian SSR. Simultaneously with the contingent of students, VIZRT branches located in the cities of Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, as well as educational and consulting points that were located in the cities of Simferopol, Stalin, and Kharkiv, were subordinated to KhIRT.

Kryvyi Rih period[edit]

Taking into account the complex socio-political situation in the East of Ukraine and the continuation of armed conflict in the city of Donetsk in order to preserve the life and health of Ukrainian citizens, as well as ensuring the constitutional right of everyone to the proper, safe and healthy working conditions (including education), by order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine No. 1178 of October 17, 2014 "On the organization of the educational process at the Donetsk National University of Economics and Trade named after Mikhail Tugan-Baranovsky" from November 3, 2014 to the completion armed conflict in the city. Donetsk Donetsk National University of Economics and Trade after M. Tugan-Baranowski conducts its educational activities (in accordance with the existing license for educational activity and certificates of accreditation) in. Krivoy Rog Dnepropetrovsk region.

Operation in the new conditions conditioned the reformation of the organizational structure of the university management (Order of the Rector № 14 dated 04.11.2014) - the Institute of Economics, Finance and Accounting was created; Institute of Trade, Customs and Hotel and Restaurant Business.

Awards and ratings[edit]

  • In 1970, the University was awarded the Diploma of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Ukrainian SSR.
  • Acknowledgments of the Prime Minister of Ukraine "For the significant contribution to the development of education and science in the field of economy and trade, training of highly skilled specialists for the agro-industrial sector and high scientific achievements" (2010)
  • Diplomas of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine "For International Cooperation in the Field of Education and Science" (2007); "For the Development of the Material and Technical Base of the Educational Institution" (2007)

Donetsk National University of Economics and Trade was awarded with a silver medal of the XI International Exhibition of Educational Establishments "Modern Education - 2008", with gold medals: International Specialized Exhibition "Education and Career - Applicant - 2010" in the category "Achievement in the Employment of Graduates of Higher Educational Institutions" international exhibitions "Innovation in modern education" (2010, 2012, 2013) in the nomination "Innovation in cooperation of higher educational institutions with the labor market"; Diplomas of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine on the results of participation in international exhibitions "Education and Career" (2006, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013) - for active vocational guidance work among young people and high professional training of specialists; "Innovation in the Education of Ukraine" (2010, 2012) - for the active introduction into educational process of educational innovations; "Modern Starting Institutions-2011", "Modern Education in Ukraine" (2011) - for the high creative achievements in improving the content of the educational process of the national education system, "Modern Educational Establishments-2013" - for a significant contribution to the development of national education ; MESU diplomas "Leader of higher education of Ukraine - 2012" and "The leader of the national rating system of higher educational institutions of Ukraine - 2012".

The staff of the University was awarded by the International Personnel Academy - the Order of Honor (2002), within the framework of the International Academic Popularity Rating "Golden Fortune" - the Silver Stela and the Diploma of Quality (2003), the silver medal "10 Years of Independence of Ukraine", the Order of St. Dmytro Solunsky , a bronze medal based on the results of the VIII International Exhibition of Educational Establishments "Modern Education-2005". DonNUET is awarded the International Symbol of the "Gold Medal of Socrates" for its significant research and dissemination (London, 2012).

As a result of the rating of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the university has tripled been a winner in a group of economics and humanities higher education institutions (2005-2006, 2006-2007, 2007-2008).

International cooperation[edit]

Donetsk National University of Economics and Trade is one of the first higher educational institutions in Ukraine to start work on international scientific projects within the framework of the European program TEMPUS / TACIS. University scientists successfully co-operate with foreign partners within the framework of the REAP program of the British Council under the funding of the Know-How Foundation, having received grants for the development of economic courses since 1998.

DonNUET scientists receive annual grants for participation in foreign scientific conferences and seminars, publication of scientific articles within the TACIS programs, the British Council, TREX, the Renaissance Foundation, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The university's close relations are supported by the University of California, the Athens University in Greece. In addition to the development of creative contacts with universities abroad, Donetsk National University of Economics and Trade continues its long-standing cooperation with universities in Russia (the Russian Economic Academy named after Grigory Plekhanov, St. Petersburg University of Trade and Economics, Voronezh University, Moscow University of Consumer Cooperatives).

DonNUET prepares specialists not only for the sphere of trade and services, but also for other branches of the economy, by right becoming the center of training of economic personnel in the region. In spite of the difficulties in the country, the university is being rebuilt according to the needs of the time in order to more closely integrate into Europe and provide the independent Ukrainian state with young qualified specialists.

In 2008, DonNUET acquired membership in the European Association of Universities and the Association of Economic Universities of Southeast Europe and the Black Sea Region, and in September 2010 joined the Bologna Process in the framework of the signing of the Charter of the Universities of Bologna (Italy). Has membership in the International Association of Trade and Economic Education, Association "Eurasian Economic Club of Scientists".
